Poor Baby Davis

Well, we had our first hospital stay with Davis (or Drew for that matter) about a week ago. He started running fever last Monday and with newborns that's never a good thing. He ran 100-100.5 that day so I took him to the doctor on Tuesday. They ran all kinds of tests on him...catheter for urine cultures, RSV swab, chest x-ray, bloodwork, etc. Then he got an antibiotic shot and we went home with the hopes that would knock out the fever and it was just a virus. Well, it didn't go down and even reached 101 Tuesday night. We went back to the doctor on Wednesday and they did bloodwork again and did a spinal on him to try to get some spinal fluid to test for menigitis. But they weren't successful extracting any fluid. We had to take him to Baptist-Springhill for some IV medications and fluids for 48 hours while we waited for all the test results. He was such a trooper while they did all those tests and then spending two days with an IV in his hand and getting poked on and temperature taken every two hours. The nurses were great and we were lucky because the RN when we got there was a friend of Brian's from high school and the daytime RN both days was a friend's mom. So we were well taken care of. We found out that the bloodwork came back negative, but there was an extremely high level of Staff in his urine. So much that the doctors think his catheter must have been contaminated when they ran the tests because his fever went away with his IV meds and they weren't the kind of meds that would've treated Staff. But we still have to go to Children's Hospital in a few weeks to have some more tests run on his kidneys and bladder to test for some urinary problems. Nothing serious, but still...a hassle. Dr. Laura is pretty sure he just had some kind of virus but with little ones you want to rule out really bad stuff. Needless to say, he was a big time trooper and is feeling much better now. Poor sweet boy!

Aw, that is no fun. I'm glad he is better though! Let me know when you are going to ACH. My mom may be able to drop in and say hi to you guys!
